2. Principles

The EA Management Guide applies the following nomenclature and definition principles to make the EA terminology unique, consistent, and clearly defined throughout the Guide.
Principles to Name an Object:
When using a term to name an object (i.e., a concept or a thing), we will follow three quality criteria to form a good term:
  1. Singularity. The term represents one and only one object in a subject area.
  2. Correctness. The term is not a faulty representation of the object.
  3. Recognizability. The term is commonly recognizable in the subject area as identifying the object it is supposed to represent.
Principles to Define a Term:
When developing a definition for an object, we will follow five quality criteria to form a good definition:
  1. Accurateness. The definition identifies the exact characters of the object being defined.
  2. Completeness. The definition provides the complete description of the object being defined.
  3. Distinction. The definition specifies the distinctions that differentiate the object being defined from other objects especially similar objects.
  4. Concision. The definition is in its most economic form.
  5. Acceptability. The definition is commonly acceptable in the applicable subject area.
